Livin' Up In A Down World

Deezer D.

N'Soul Records

If you've seen CB4, Fear of a Black Hat, or if you're an avid viewer of ER, you've seen Deezer D. in his acting career.  This is Actor/rapper Deezer D's first album since rededicating himself to Jesus.  Deezer D plays Malik the male nurse on "ER", played one of the Jam Boys in "Fear of a Black Hat" and had a starring role in "CB4."

As far as Christian rap goes, Deezer D is one of the very few Christian rap artists who aren't cheesy.  I can actually play this album in public without turning absolutely red.  He's upfront with his Christianity on this album without pitching it so hard that it's corny.

"I Can't Take it No Mo" is a song about watching TV in moderation and being careful not to be sucked in by it.  "Welcome Home" is about Deezer coming back to his faith.  It's got a great R&B flavor to it.  "Name Droppin'" is pretty obvious--stop trying to impress me with who you supposedly know.  "Still My Homie" declares "you're still my homie if you're rollin' with me, 'cause I got saved at Faith Community."  "Come Back" is about not giving up when you mess up. ("when you have a setback, don't take a step back.  Get ready for a comeback.")  "Jealousy" talks about how we tend to wish someone well until they become successful and we get jealous.    "Stop, I love Hip Hop" bemoans the violence in hip hop and how so many hip hop artists have destroyed themselves.

Deezer stands apart from most Christian rap artists.  He's got the skills, he's got style, he's real and honest and not pretentious.  I like his hip-hop/R&B flavor.  What a talented guy.
