Leaving a Legacy

Here's another great book written in fictional story fashion.  I think this is one of the best ways to learn useful principles.  I certainly enjoy it.

There are many useful aspects to this book.  For one, it teaches you to have respect for the elderly and the wisdom they have to offer.  Also, it encourages elderly people to look within their lives, pull out their wisdom from experience, and leave their own legacy.  For everyone else, it encourages us to make the best use of our time before we're old.  If we can use our wisdom as we gather it, how much greater will our legacy be?

Every morning, seven elderly men meet at the local McDonalds to talk.  They are the "Board of Directors."  Most mornings, nothing is accomplished but griping and complaining about how boring and pointless their miserable lives are.  But one day would change their whole lives.  The day Joe Yamka walked out of the meeting saying, "You guys are all dead, and I'm dying."

So starts a magical turn of events that leads to this group of men making a difference across the nation.  Joe finally wakes up to the wisdom he has collected through his life.  The next morning he presents it to the "Board" and each day after, another member makes a presentation of his accumulated wisdom.  In the process, each member and all members collectively touch lives along the way.  Seeing the results, they decide to teach others to do the same, and hence they change the nation.

Wow.  You have to read the book to really get the picture.  I recommend this book to everyone.
